I am continuing to create generative animations of the collages I am creating with the photos that my dad and I took in Cuba back in 2007. This project feels like making for the sake of making; following a hunch and a need to create something. I did quite a lot of work of this sort at the start of the pandemic. I was just creating without any idea of what or where it would end up. For this iteration I broke the base image into more fragments and added a dynamic grid on top. It is a matter of playing with various rhythms to make it uncertain but not overwhelm completely. These images have such personal resonance for me on various levels, including my scholarly, artistic, and personal development. It’s also visiting a younger self at a not very good stage of my life, but despite this was a powerful experience of connecting with my father.
